Since 1998, GE Capital Real Estate has made a name for itself in the Spanish and Portuguese property markets through its diversified investment policy. This includes, JV equity investments with major players in the sector such as GMP and Coperfil in Spain and Amorim, (currently known as Chamartin Inmobiliaria) in Portugal, and own acquisitions, ranging from single assets to entire portfolios for €650M.
Most recent GE RE Iberia acquisitions include Meridian office building in Barcelona in March 2008, an investment worth €50,000,000. Other transactions worth noting include the acquisition “to-be built” future-completion of logistic centers in Ribarroja (Valencia) and Villarodona (Barcelona), totalling 155,400 sqm and a total investment value of €125M.
In 2006, GE Capital Real Estate Iberia witnessed outstanding growth with the purchase of 42 logistic units of El Arbol supermarket chain throughout the country, for €76M; Barajas 1 office Building, for €50M, the Cortefiel portfolio for €315M (office buildings and high-street retail) and more recently, the Landscape portfolio (of mixed use assets in the Catalonia region) for €650M.
Other assets of note completing the Spanish portfolio include a 100% acquisition of the Albufera shopping center and office building in February 2006 and Condesa de Venadito office building for €65M in 2005.
